There were two stages for the current renovation and operation of the Historic Inn. Beginning in 2001, the first floor opened for guests, meetings, receptions, and special events. In 2002 the second floor opened with additional guest and public rooms.

This project was initiated by Fort Totten State Historic Site Foundation with the North Dakota State Historic Society providing planning and oversight. Furnishings were made possible through donations from area families, whose names designate the individual guest rooms. The rooms are pictured on the Photo Album page.

The proceeds from the operations of the Inn will be used to renovate and restore the remaining 16 original buildings on the Historic Site.
